Natural history museum of Latvia is the oldest natural sciences museum in Baltics and biggest natural treasures storehouse in Latvia. Museum collects and preserves Latvian and world’s natural collections, it also conducts research and promotes exhibitions. The museum also participates in environmental education processes.

It is considered that Natural history museum of Latvia was founded in 1845 when representatives of Baltic Germans intelligence founded Union of Natural Researchers (Der Naturforscherverein zu Riga) with museum and library.

The Natural History museum of Latvia is a great place to spend your time, its modern and interactive exhibitions tell us about development of life on the planet Earth. Among other exhibitions there are Human evolution history, Latvian nation development after ice age, world’s and Latvian mammals and insects, Latvian birds and many others. There are 183 000 collection units in the museum.

 

Museum offers excursions, lectures, group-classes, pedagogical programs, thematic family days and birthday events. There are exhibitions of gardening and thematic exhibitions made by museum workers.

 

Thursdays from 17:00 till 18:00 the entrance is for free!
